Current Appeals
Heart Starter Appeal •
Health reports state that Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) strikes approximately 20,000 Australians every year. Heart attacks and other related disorders still rank as the leading cause of death in Australian society.
Unfortunately, CPR alone is quite often not enough. The fact is that if someone receives defibrillation within the initial three minutes of suffering from SCA, the chance of survival improves dramatically. Indeed, for every minute defibrillation is delayed the chance of survival decreases by a frightening 10%.
With this in mind we have equipped our volunteers over recent years with defibrillators: essential equipment for saving lives in response to SCA.
More units however are needed so we can save more lives at the numerous public and community events where our volunteers serve.
St John (NSW) is not part of the NSW Ambulance Service. Our volunteers support the community in providing pre-hospital care.
Please give so they can save.
