Immunisation Program

The Immunisation Program is a volunteer program that provides assistance to the NSW Department of Health Immunisation Teams, who visit secondary schools to immunise students against a range of vaccine preventable diseases.

The volunteers support the health professionals by checking consent forms, answering questions, assisting students both prior to, and after immunisation.

At this stage the Program is being run in the Northern Sydney Metropolitan Area but will be fully operational in 2007 in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Sydney.

Eligibility for Immunisation Program:

  • Must be a minimum 18 years of age
  • Must successfully complete the Immunisation Program Course
  • Reference checks
  • Subject to subject to a criminal record check
  • Must sign a prohibited employment declaration

People undertake the St John Immunisation Program Course so that they can become volunteers and help students. They come from a variety of backgrounds and experience, and value the benefits of immunisation.

The Program has the advantage in that volunteers receive notification early in the year of the schedule of school visits (duties) and will then nominate which schools they wish to attend.
