Advanced Resuscitation

Course description

Advanced Resuscitation is designed for first aiders to safely administer oxygen by face mask or mechanical resuscitator to a breathing and non-breathing casualty. This course is suitable for police, emergency personnel, first aiders in the workplace and divers.

Course duration

One (1) day (8 hours).

Content

• one and two person resuscitation techniques
• oxygen safety precautions
• selecting and 'cracking' an oxygen cylinder
• checking and assembling an oxygen cylinder and equipment
• administering oxygen with a face mask
• selection of appropriate oropharyngeal airway
• inserting an oropharyngeal airway
• suction equipment
• using a mechanical resuscitator
• two person mechanical resuscitation
• safe procedure and effective use of an automated external defibrillator

Prerequisites

A current Senior First Aid or higher certificate is needed.

Materials provided

Advanced Resuscitation booklet.

Classes

Conducted at most St John training venues.

Certificate validity

One (1) year.

Price

$140 inc GST

Assessment

Practical: CPR, advanced resuscitation skills, use of automated external defrillator, use of oxygen delivery system.
