Introduction to Sports First Aid

 

Course description

This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement an effective sports injury prevention programme and give competent first aid to the ill or injured until medical aid arrives in a sporting environment.

 

Course duration

Eight (8) hours.

 

Content

On completion of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Operate in accordance with the accepted roles and responsibilities of a sports first aider.
  • Prepare and implement an injury prevention program.
  • Assist with warm-up, stretching and cool down.
  • Assist with fluid replacement.
  • Follow defined Sports First Aid crisis management strategies.
  • Follow defined Sports First Aid immediate injury management strategies.

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for attendance at this course. Minimum age for participants is 14 years.

 

Materials provided

Emergency First Aid: A Quick Guide booklet, 1 Roller bandage, 2 x Triangular bandages.

 

Classes

Classes are available upon request at a St John training venue or at your venue.

 

Certificate validity

Three (3) years.

 

Price

$100 inc GST

 

Assessment

Theory: 10 multiple choice questions, pass mark is 80%

Practical: resuscitation skills, sports injury management

 

 

National Accreditation

 

Statement of Attainment:

SRSSPT001A — Implement injury prevention and apply basic sports first aid
