Preliminary First Aid (First Aid for Juniors)

 

Course description

This course is designed to teach basic first aid skills to young people aged 10-14 years.

 

Course duration

One days (8 hours).

The duration may be delivered over shorter sessions in order to fit school timetables.

 

Content

  • introduction to first aid
  • management of the unconscious breathing casualty
  • management of a casualty who having a seizure
  • bleeding
  • shock
  • bites, stings
  • asthma
  • choking

 

Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 10-14 years.

 

Materials provided

Emergency First Aid: A Quick Guide booklet.

 

Classes

Conducted on request for groups.

 

Certificate validity

Three years.

 

Assessment

Demonstration of practical skills including the management of the unconscious casualty, bleeding control and fracture management.
