Remote Area First Aid

 

Course description

This course is designed to meet the first aid needs of bushwalkers, climbers, canyoners, cavers, 4WD enthusiasts, outdoor/adventure instructors, wilderness guides, scout leaders, or people who work and live in remote locations. It includes the content of the Senior first Aid course.

 

Course duration

Three (3) days.

 

Please note that the course may not run on consecutive days. Please check the timetable.

 

Content

  • Senior First Aid curriculum
  • role of the first aider
  • priorities in care
  • respiratory distress
  • chest pain or injury
  • variety of wounds
  • gastro-intestinal illness
  • common skin conditions
  • lifting and moving casualties
  • heat or cold induced illness

 

Prerequisites

Nil

 

Materials provided

Australian First Aid manual and St John Ambulance Australia Remote Area First Aid: Field Guide booklet and bandages.

 

Classes

Conducted at Surry Hills on request, at branch offices or at your venue.

 

Certificate validity

Three (3) years.

 

Price

$230 inc GST

 

Accreditation

Successful participants are issued with a Remote Area First Aid Qualification.

 

Assessment

Theory: 20 multiple choice questions, pass mark is 80%

Practical: resuscitations skills, casualty management skills.

 

 

National Accreditation

 

Statement of Attainment:

HTLCPR201A - Perform CPR

HLTFA402B - Apply first aid

HLTFA302A - Provide first aid in remote situation
