Senior First Aid inc. Recertification and Flexible Learning Option

 

Course description

Senior First Aid course is the flagship St John Ambulance course. It is a comprehensive course designed to give you the knowledge and skills to help manage most situations until medical aid arrives.

 

Course duration

Option 1: Senior First Aid Course

  • Face to face workshop, two days (16 hours)

Option 2: Flexible Learning

  • self-study time prior to workshop, (6 hours)
  • face to face workshop, one day (8 hours)

Option 3: Recertification

  • Face to face workshop, one day (8 hours)

 

Content

  • safety and hazards
  • managing the unconscious casualty
  • resuscitation techniques (including CPR)
  • shock
  • bleeding, wounds
  • fractures, sprains and strains
  • head, neck and spinal injury
  • eye, ear or mouth injury
  • chest pain and injury
  • breathing difficulties
  • abdominal or pelvic injury
  • poison, bites and stings
  • allergic reaction and anaphylaxis awareness
  • exposure to heat and cold
  • infection control
  • first aid team work

 

Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years.

A current Senior First Aid certificate is needed for a recertification course.

 

Materials provided

Australian First Aid manual, bandages.

 

For the flexible learning option, a self-paced workbook, CD or online is available.

 

Classes

Conducted regularly at Burwood, branch offices or at your place of work on request.

Certificate validity

Three years.

$175.00 (for 2 day Senior First Aid course) inc GST

$175.00 (for Flexible Learning option) inc GST

$150.00 (for 1 day Recertification course) inc GST

 

Assessment

Theory: 20 multiple choice questions, pass mark is 80%

Practical: resuscitation skills, casualty management skills

 

Accreditation

Complies with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001.

Flexible Learning

Senior First Aid can be undertaken as a part of a Flexible Learning, a program which allows for self-directed study using a workbook or CD-Rom in conjunction with the Australian First Aid manual, followed by one day of in class practice and assessment.
