Adult St John Members

First Aid volunteers learn and practice First Aid, family care and other subjects to enhance their life saving skills. Members can attend training courses to learn advanced First Aid and life saving skills, communications, leadership training and participate in special event training such as major incident management courses.

To join an adult group, applicants must:

  • Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Be of good character and be medically fit;
  • Be willing to undertake regular training and recertification in first aid; and
  • Be able to devote time to First Aid duties.

Volunteers meet regularly to continue learning and to gain new skills.

Juniors/Cadets

St John Juniors/Cadets are part of a national youth organisation. Members develop extensive First Aid skills, life skills, communication and leadership skills. Once they are trained members may attend First Aid duties under adult supervision. Juniors/Cadets may attend various excursions and camps during the year.

  • Juniors are aged between 8 and 11 years.
  • Cadets are aged from 11 to 17 years.

Many young volunteers have found St John Cadets to be a valuable stepping-stone for careers as an ambulance officer, nurse or in medicine.
