About WYD08

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who were on duty during WYD. You did an amazing job!

The purpose of this short message is to convey my sense of pride in what we achieved, incredible planning, preparation and implementation. The seamless integration of the 100 interstate and overseas members with some 600 plus local members was wonderful as was the co-operation between all volunteers and staff.

The friendly, can do and professional manner of all involved was inspiring and has been communicated to me by any number of ASNSW and NSW Police personnel.

My sincere thanks.

Major General Warren Glenny

Commissioner
St John (NSW)

Board members watched with interest and pride as events unfolded throughout the week of the Papal visit and we were updated on a regular basis by the Commissioner.

I would like to recognize some very significant achievements:

  • The Commissioner and his team led more than 700 volunteers during the week with 100 of those coming from interstate and overseas – a fantastic effort
  • Through the outstanding performance of the whole team, the profile and reputation of St John as a professional organisation among fellow emergency service organisations, Government agencies and the Church has been enhanced
  • The integration of staff and volunteers working together on this major event is a great example of “One St John” in action and sets a benchmark for the future
  • All St John costs have already been met by WYD08/WYDCA and there will be no cost legacy for the week

On behalf of the Board to all those involved, congratulations on a great effort and be proud of a job well done.

The Hon Peter Collins AM QC

Chairman

St John (NSW)
