Your legacy can save lives

Leaving a gift in your Will to St John Ambulance Australia (NSW) will ensure the valuable frontline work of our charity continues to equip and enable the health care leaders of the future.

A gift in your Will to St John Ambulance (NSW) can save someone's life.

A gift in your Will is a special contribution that will make a positive and lasting impact on generations to come. By supporting St John Ambulance you will be helping to ensure accessible first aid services and medical health care is readily available in your community, when and where it is needed most.

Since 1883, St John Ambulance has been here for you.

During the nineteenth century revolution there were many dangerous workplaces. Conditions and machinery were hazardous and workers were exhausted by long hours. Accidents were frequent but workers rarely saw a doctor in time. Death or disability from untreated injuries was common. The founding members of St John wanted to find a way to help. They decided to train ordinary people in first aid so accident victims could be treated quickly and on the spot. Out of this, in 1877, the modern organisation St John Ambulance was established. In 1883, St John Ambulance was established in Australia, with associations set up in each state and territory.

Today you will find us on the side of a sporting match, at local events, music and cultural festivals, and at major events such as the City2Surf and The Royal Easter Show. We also provide frontline community support in evacuation centres during bushfires and floods, and during the COVID-19 pandemic have supported community testing in over fifty town centres across the state.

When someone is experiencing an unexpected medical illness or incident during a public event or local disaster, St John Ambulance is there to provide crucial first aid to them and to you, and your family.

Why St John Ambulance (NSW) needs your support

Over the years, many Australians have chosen to give a generous gift in their Will to support the frontline work of St John Ambulance (NSW). Their gifts have helped to provide much needed medical equipment and supplies to our remote and regional divisions.

Vehicles and Equipment: The cost to supply a new St John Ambulance community vehicle with essential medical equipment is over $100,000. Each vehicle is needed to transfer patients, store equipment and train and equip our volunteers in the life-saving work of first aid.

First Aid in Schools: For more than five years, St John Ambulance has provided a free First Aid in Schools program to ensure students can gain the skills they need to respond to an incident or injury. For many young people learning these skills has given them the confidence to dial 000 and to know how to respond until help arrives. We continue to receive testimonials from teachers and students outlining the value of this community centred program.

St John Cadets and Juniors: Each year, St John trains hundreds of young people via our Cadets and Juniors programs. Young people receive badges in recognition of the skills they achieve and community service they contribute. Many of these young people aspire to hold careers as future health care leaders.

Every gift from a Will is greatly valued by St John Ambulance (NSW) and it will help save lives. No matter what the amount, every dollar you give to St John Ambulance will be fully invested back into providing community medical assistance to help those who need it most.

Have you ever wondered how a special connection with St John Ambulance can help to transform someone’s life?

When I was nineteen, I was driving in the car with my mother when I saw a group of people standing around in a car park crying. I asked my mother to stop and I leapt out to find them crouching around a seven year old girl who had just been struck b a hit-and-run vehicle. Immediately my St John first aid training came to the fore and I was able to manage the situation and administer CPR until help arrived. Fortunately the little girl lived. This moment has stayed with me. Afterward I had to reflect and I realised that it was a team effort. My trainers, the St John team and the donors who had helped to supply our services - together we had call contributed to saving a child's life.
