Emergency services

Our volunteers are readily mobilised to respond in times of disaster.
As a participating organisation in the NSW Health Plan, we are called upon to provide assistance to the NSW State Health Plan and other emergency service agencies during events such as bushfires, extreme weather conditions and, in the last few years, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bushfire support

During the 2019-20 bushfires, St John Ambulance NSW was on the frontline with the RFS in our state’s north, ensuring firefighters could receive immediate medical attention at base camps and at evacuation centres down south, supporting local communities in need.

Flood support

In 2021 and 2022, significant rainfall caused flooding in communities across NSW. St John Ambulance NSW members worked closely with NSW Health, NSW Ambulance, the SES, RFS and the NSW Police to set up medical centres and deploy at base camps and evacuation centres across the state.

COVID-19 Support

Throughout COVID-19, St John Ambulance NSW provided support through:

COVID-19 screening at workplaces, quarantine, health facilities and transportation hubs

COVID-19 testing at fixed and drive-through clinics

Courier and logistics services to quarantine facilities and   testing clinics

Transportation services to patients and quarantining     persons

Customer service and vaccination services at mass         vaccination hubs

Outreach to vulnerable communities

Surge capacity to LHDs

Online COVID medical support
