State Emergency Response

For over 130 years, St John has worked within the community, both locally and at large, to promote the saving of lives through first aid. Our early history in Australia started with training members of the public in first aid skills and the provision of ambulance services in NSW up until World War I.

More recently, our proud heritage of providing essential community help includes our volunteer response to natural disasters such as the 1989 Newcastle Earthquake, 1990 Nyngan floods, 1993/94 bushfires, 2001/2002 Christmas bushfires, 2009 Victorian bushfires, 2011 Queensland floods, 2013 Blue Mountains bushfires and the 2014 Coonabarabran bushfire.

St John volunteers are readily mobilised to respond as part of the State Emergency Management Plan. We work alongside emergency services during events such as bushfires or extreme weather conditions.
